FORD 4-Speed Manual Trucks

Yellow Stone Vacation's, E-350 The BorgWarner T18/19 and NP 435 are both wide ratio 4-speeds. They have a granny low and so then just 3 normally usable ratios. See Final Drive Ratio charts and notice the extreme benefit there is to Gear-Splitting by using the GEAR VENDORS. You will now have ratios between each of your gears that keep the engine in the power and torque multiplication much higher when climbing grades or accelerating. When 3rd is going to be too slow and 4th is lugging you will simply hit our button on your shifter and move the shift lever to 3rd for 3rd-over which is just like you switched to a stouter rear end gear. There is just no comparison to what these gears will do for performance.

When cruising on the highway you will enjoy a 28.6% faster cruising gear, which will have your 4.10 rear gear down to 3.20 revs. The same rpms that currently take you just 500 miles will now take you 643. FORD 5-Speed Manual Trucks

Look at the Final Drive Ratio charts and notice the great benefit in gear-splitting with the GEAR VENDORS. When climbing grades you will have a gear between 2nd/3rd and 3rd/4th that is ideal for keeping the engine in the power and the torque multiplication up. Look at the horsepower and torque curves and notice that by keeping the engine in the power you will gain 50+ horsepower and 60+ lb ft. of torque without any modifications to the engine.

Ford axuliary transmissions The more heavily you are loaded the more you need the GEAR VENDORS. When you are heavy you would do best by not using 5th but instead use 4th + GEAR VENDORS (4th-over). This will keep your transmission temperature as much as a 100 degrees cooler (extending transmission life) and puts that work on the GEAR VENDORS planetary gearing with is much stronger.

When you are running empty (without the aerodynamic load of the trailer) you can use double overdrive (5th-over) and enjoy 22% lower engine rpm and better fuel mileage. At today's 75mph highway speeds this is a very valuable feature and will pay for the overdrive quickly in fuel mileage, reduced engine and engine driven accessory. The same number of rpms that currently take you just 400 miles will now take you 643. Expect fuel mileage gains of 22-28% depending on rear ratio. FORD 6-Speed Manual Trucks

Look at the Final Drive Ratios chart in this section and notice the benefits of gear-splitting with the six speed transmission. 2nd-over and 3rd-over give you gears that make more torque multiplication than taking the full shift to the next gear. Also now when you do shift up to 3rd-direct and 4th-direct you are going 28% faster so the rmp drops nearly half of what it did without the GEAR VENDORS.

Performance with these shorter steps improves horsepower 50+ and Torque 60+ lbs ft. without modification to the engine this is the most reliable way to make power (study the Horsepower and Torque curves). Notice that 4th-over and 5th are really duplicates (which is why you don't feel like you need a gear between here). 5th-over however is very useful when the vehicle is heavily loaded because it has a slightly higher torque multiplier and most importantly the transmission will run as much as 100 degrees cooler than in 6th. 6th is the smallest gear and lightest duty so you will only use 6th when empty. When you are running empty 6th-over (6th + Gear Vendors) will get you better fuel mileage and far less engine wear at today's 75mph speed limits. Not only is the engine turning slower but so are all the engine driven accessories which cuts down on parasitic losses (turning an a/c compressor or alternator slower greatly reduces their wear and load on the engine). Expect 17-22% mileage increases which will pay for the overdrive itself but also realize that the same engine revs that are now taking you just 500 miles will take you 643 miles after the Under/Overdrive is installed - big savings on wear, great improvement in quieting down the engine, and added resale value of the truck.

FORD FINAL DRIVE RATIOS

Gears Under/Overdrive Find your transmission and rear gear multiplier below. The Final Drive Ratio shows you how many times the engine turns for one complete turn of the tires.
